- Trail Rations - One meal's worth of trail ration consists of a loaf of bread stuffed with meat, fish, fowl or vegetables. Properly wrapped in parchment a loaf could last for months. The rations are long on nutrition and preservation, but short on flavor. So most users carry spices and sauces along with cheese to liven up the meal. They are usually heated up but can be eaten cold.
