Gornul, by Oren the Otter

Story name: Gornul
Author: Oren the Otter

Date: late May, 706 CR
Location: Metamor Keep

Gornul feels ignored after his latest story, until he is cheered up by his friends at the Writer's Guild.

Gornul sits on the Keep walls and watches Oren building his tower, as he thinks about his journey to Metamor Keep. Though he has found a new home at the Keep, he feels that he is not being treated as his own person. Recently the king of Whales praised a story he wrote, but sent congratulations to Oren instead. He watches Jesse showing Oren some tunics, but his thoughts are broken by some passersby talking openly and condescendingly about Gornul. Gornul flies off in a huff.

Gornul doesn't find Oren at home, instead finding a map to the Writer's Guild. When Gornul flies there, the room lights up with all of the writers there, wearing the tunics he saw earlier emblazoned with his image, praising Gornul for his story. Gornul beams, and gives a speech in pictures to show his gratitude to the Keep.

Main characters:

  • Gornul: A blue dragonette who speaks in pictures, and a member of the Writer's Guild. He is unable to read or write, but he is able to tell stories through Oren. Because he doesn't speak and hangs around Oren, people assume that he is Oren's pet, which annoys him. He is also annoyed by people mispronouncing his name as "Gormul".
    • He comes from the beautiful Dragonette Islands, where he had many friends. Out of boredom, he decided to seek out other islands, but found nothing after 2 days. As he turned back, he was caught in a storm. He woke up in a strange land, and met Oren that very morning.

Minor characters:

  • Oren: A half-otter human from Hipocc. He is a member of the Writer's Guild, and is also currently constructing a small tower, having just started the 2nd level.
  • Jesse Roo: A kangaroo morph and a friend of Oren's.

  • Tenomides: The king of Whales. He enjoyed one of Gornul's stories, and sent praise to Oren instead of Gornul.

  • The island that Gornul is from was rich in life, warm and sunny. The island is no more than three days' flight from the mainland.

Points of Interest

  • Gornul's story is called Magic Reborn. It takes place in the far future, in a world where there is suddenly magic where none had been before for centuries. The main magic-wielding characters are named after his friends on the Writer's Guild.
