What was it called before Loriod was killed?
Lorland had to have some other name before they renamed it after Loriod's defeat. What was it?

Something with "Loriod" in it I'm sure (hence the reason for the change). People are free to name it as they see fit. I never did.

Was it a family-run keep/town/whatever? Would it have had another name before Altera came into power (after her/his husband died) then changed it? Or are we just looking at one name for it in the decades before "Lorland"?
It was a family run place. There is a castle whose name I just don't remember. For a name - we can make up something with Loriod in it. Something like Loriodina or Loriolona or Altraloriod. Afterall I named Hareford/Outpost some 10 years after creating it.
Any ideas? Comments?
I'd go with Loriodina. Seems the simplest.

I -really- need to check this forum more often.
In Xavier's backstory, I've mentioned that his family once owned most of Lorland, but lost it. I don't know if that will make a difference to what's been thought up here, but I thought I'd mention it.
I think the worst you'd have to do would be change the name in the story.
