My plan was to have my three characters living to the north in lutin territory, and through various tragic and dramatic circumstances they end up in the Keep, with one of their number severely banged up. The curse claims them as they wait for him to be cured. //
Well, if they're from anywhere north of the Dikes they'll know about the Curse and its effects. They would therefor know that their injured comrade is stuck for it, but they themselves can choose to flee its touch, so they have a good bit of weighing out of their choices: Stay, and be cursed, or leave and abandon their comrade.
Just for a point; medical reasons are one of the most common reasons for someone to stick around long enough to become cursed. Metamor's touch does heal, fully, all injuries and illnesses of mundane sorts and a good many magical ones as well. But it only does so once…
Buuut if the Giant's Dike is being refortified, it means that could be…troublesome. How soon, after the Assault, did that plan commence? I need a band of lutins to breach that front and head south through the valley a ways for my plot to go as planned. …Any suggestions? //
Initial refortifying will begin in spring of 707 CR, though the full garrisoning will not take place for years. So the first year will see considerably increased patrols and work crews fortifying areas that can be most easily repaired to serve as lodging for the garrisons assinged there. In the coming years further enhancements will be made (allowing for the repeated destruction due to Lilith's attack in 708). Thus, someone living north of the dikes could easily slip through unnoticed. As could small Lutin raiding parties, with Dire mounts, or even a giant or two (that being quite unlikely… giants are far from subtle).
Small Lutin raiding parties will continue to slip into Metamor valley for … well, forever. Nothing can truly stop them as they can make their way around any fortifications via high passes if they really really want to get south. Until the uprising of the Ghost Horde (711-713, roughly) Lutins will remain a minor threat. Read: minor as their tribes have been decimated by the failed assault in 706, and subsequent rise of Lilith's faithful in Lik and the surrounding Dark Forest ("The Murk" on maps) that pushes them even further afield.
