I have no ebook readers yet (who can afford $200-300+ just to read books? At that price, I'd go for a small laptop), but plan to get one when they come down to affordable prices (I'm thinking <$30).

Are there any plans to make the story archives downloadable en-masse for such devices instead of manually saving each page of each story one by one?

Forum category: General Discussion / Technical
Forum thread: archive downloads for offline reading

The Pantheon came to Earth sometime before 15,000 years ago. The Lost Kingdom was influenced heavily by the Titans, and that was the human kingdom that was dominant around -15,000 CR. The Aedra and Daedra had their war with the titans around -14,000 CR, not long after the Lost Kingdom became, well, lost. :)

I always got the impression that Jon's reptile-folk were supposed to be actual dinosaurs. If that's the case, then the Tened probably lived millions of years ago, and were wiped out before humans were even walking erect.

Forum category: MK Discussion / Weaving Fates
Forum thread: The Afterlife

I'd hazard a guess to somewhere around 10,000 years before the current day. The (d)aedra's arrival brought about the Tened's extinction. Enough time must have passed for them to become a forgotten people to all save the most learned scholars, but not so much time that their ruined cities and monuments have become nothing but dust and gravel.

Forum category: MK Discussion / Weaving Fates
Forum thread: The Afterlife

Actually, in my second story to take place late november 707 (almost a year after) my character will have a significant conversation with the fellow just before he goes into winter sleep mode. Hopefully, the result of said conversation (ultimately up to the comunity) will actually help Laracin's situation in a way I don't want to specify before I finish my story, "Only in Metamor". So fear not, this tree has not been forgotten ^.^

Forum category: MK Discussion / Realms of Wonder
Forum thread: How is Laracin doing?

During Winter Assault, Laracin was dug up and brought into the keep to protect him from being chopped down by lutins for a battering ram (or whatever other use). As of (the middle of) LToY, I haven't seen anything written concerning whether he survived the transplanting back in the garden or how he's recovering from the cut roots. There have only been a couple slight mentions (remembering previous encounters) of him in the intervening time.

Forum category: MK Discussion / Realms of Wonder
Forum thread: How is Laracin doing?

Ok Logs, I put up my story so now you have to finish your second one up now! Get cracking!

For those who don't know (which… would be everyone besides nagolinc), I'm the friend who showed nagolinc this place and told him he should write here. He has a second story actually mostly finished, but he said he wouldn't finish it until I finished Sacrifice (my first story). Well now it's done, so you all have my official permission to go threaten to impale him with swimming noodles until he gets it done.

Forum category: General Discussion / Introductions
Forum thread: Greetings and Salutations!

Hey Toast! Always great to have new people, especially when they manage to read the (large chunk of) the archives! I myself have been around this place since August of last year (May actually, but meh) and been having a lot of fun. It's true Vir rakes in a lot of new people though, thankfully I got in through DMFA's Xepher link so he can't hold that over me ^.^ Anyway, looking forward to your story as new entries to MK are always welcome!

Forum category: General Discussion / Introductions
Forum thread: Introduction type thingie

My intro to MK was via Fox Cutter's A Fox in the Works (sadly it's removed from his site now) a few years ago but I didn't pursue the regular MK stories at the time.
Boo.
I've sorta been lurking around since August last year (you can thank Virmir, I was looking at his stuff and followed the link), and I became quite intrigued with this little project you've got going on; mostly agape that something like this has been able to keep going for over ten years. That, and a really engrossing storyline.

I've actually been working on a first story off and on since last August since I became aware of this place, mostly being kept from finishing by long hiatuses and by the fact that it's been getting progressively longer and longer the more I get into it. Anywhere else I'd call the thing a tome, but this place has Charles, so I will refrain. I've been putting off announcing myself until the thing is nearly completed, so hopefully it should be done in a week or so.

Sooooo, that's the introduction. Thing.

Forum category: General Discussion / Introductions
Forum thread: Introduction type thingie

Yeah, a lot of this cycle is to deal with the consequences of Marzac. Another reason why there are so many stories, because there are a lot of repurcussions! Gah!

Charles will need to deal with the fact that his child born with the Sondeck died while he was gone. What will irk him is that after hearing it described, he'll know exactly what it was and if he'd been here could have healed him. Garigan, if he'd been trained, would have known too. So this will set up a bit of a conflict between them because Garigan demands that he be fully trained, but Charles is too wrapped up in his sorrow and darkness of desire to pay the ferret any mind.

Jessica will briefly have the power that the Marquis did, being able to graft the Curse onto people temporarily. She cannot undo the curse, but what she can do will be frightening enough.

Dupré will begin rebuilding the fortifications at the Dike, the main one being a Wall that will stretch across the entire pass and rising to a height beyond the reach of common seige engines. He won't see it finished in his lifetime, but at least he'll start the work.

Calephas's death… well, suffice it to say it'll be satisfying.

Merai's corruption… I started a thread on the subject specifically, but nobody posted there, so I'm still just going by what Raven suggested for that.

Glad you're interested in this stuff! I hope that when I do write it that it satisfies!

Dominus tecum

Forum category: MK Discussion / Weaving Fates
Forum thread: Matthias's Sixth Cycle

Wow! Those are a lot of stories you have planed there!

Based on what I can gather from these short synopses, a good part of this cycle seems to be a sort-of epilogue from you latest one (Those who took part of the Marzak fall having to deal with the remnant corruption within themselves), while the rest being new plots and events (The future of the Ecclesia on the Valley, Elvmere's present situation, Calepha's death, etc)

I'm most interested on Charles and Jessica's part, Dupré's plans, Merai's corruption, Calepha's death, and I'm really curious about the reaction the Sondecki will have when receiving a man-sized ferret as a pupil :P

Forum category: MK Discussion / Weaving Fates
Forum thread: Matthias's Sixth Cycle

Hey Everybody!

Since I am in the middle of an adoption and cannot vouch for the amount of time I'm going to have to give to my writing, I thought I'd share my plans with everyone so they know what I'm going to be up to. I'm only giving brief descriptions of the stories; if you would like a more thorough explanation, please ask.

And if I've set any dates that will interfere with other event, let me know. I did my best to avoid the Plague and Quarantine at Metamor (early to middle of March), and to accommodate Drift's Bogus Journey.

Without further ado, here we go:

Landing in a New Age (Dec 27 - Jan 1) - William Dupré arrives at Metamor

Lament of the Kangaroo (mid Jan) - Charles & co. arrive in Sutthaivasse. Lindsey must face a horrible temptation from the remnants of the evil they found at Marzac.

Kendrick's Quandary (end of Jan) - Kendrick's little sister catches him returning from a thieving. Kendrick now has to protect his family and the rats at the same time.

Keeper's Return (~ Feb 10) - Charles & co. return to Metamor Charles learns of his son's death. Kayla will overcome the evil when she gives up all she gained back to Rickkter.

Julian's Plan (~ Feb 14) - Julian reveals his plan to corner the market on transporting goods through the cursed valley, and sets it into motion.

Jessica's Power (~ Feb 21) - Jessica discovers that she can temporarily attach the curse to others in the way the Marquis once did.

Invigorating Faith (~ Feb 28) - Bishop Tyrion Verdane arrives in Metamor for a brief inspection of the Ecclesia faithful. Accompanying him is Father Felsah, assigned to Metamor. He will eventually ask Duke Thomas for aid with his brother Jaime.

Investigating Calamity (~ Mar 14) - Father Akaleth & Sir Czestadt arrive in Marigund to reveal to the mage guild what they know of the fight against Marzac. Folks won't be happy with a Questioner there.

Illicit Acts (~ Mar 21) - Charles succumbs to the darkness within himself with Baerle.

Healing Wounds in Arabarb (~ Apr 1) - Lindsey is sent to Arabarb to kill Baron Garadan Calephas

Heading to All Tomorrows (~ Mar - Apr) - Andares returns to Ava-shavåis and there must face a difficult choice.

Hawk's Jealous Prize (~ Apr 14) - Weyden confronts Jessica with how darkened she has become due to her power. In the end, as she nearly tries to harm him, she lets it go and is preserved from the evil.

Grappling Between Stone and Sky (~ Mar - May) - Abafouq and Guernef return to the Tabinoq. Abafouq gives up going back to Qorfuu, while Guernef gives up his desire to see Abafouq walk the Path of the Sky as he did. Instead, Guernef will take Abafouq back to Metamor before returning to his mountain home.

Gazing Through a Barred Window (~ Apr 16) - Jaime in prison, plotting by Thomas and Andwyn about what to do.

Felsah's Little School (~ Apr 20) - Father Akaleth visits Metamor and plants the seen in Felsah's mind about what he can do to help at Metamor.

Farewell to Unrequited Love (~ Apr 24) - James tries to get Baerle to love him, but she is still smitten by Charles despite the growing darkness in him. James will give her up, healing her in the process.

Fall of Rising Stars (end of Apr) - Merai's corruption.

Elvmere's Unsung Talent (end of Apr) - Elvmere has spent months working the foulest and meanest of jobs without complaint. Raven will notice something in him that will shock her.

Economic Gambits (~ May 1) - Julian's venture is a growing success, but the means by which he got there may end up unravelling everything. Kendrick's conscience is growing more insistent.

Divine Travails of Rats (~ May 2) - Charles finally gives in to the darkness within, seeks Malger's aid, and by it, obtains access to the afterlife in search of his son. A familiar guide leads him through the afterlife, but when he finds his son, he learns a terrible truth that destroys the darkness in him and gives him the courage to face his past.

Designing a New Valley (~ May 4) - William Dupré decides upon a course of action that will take years, but will forever after change the face of the Metamor Valley.

Delivering a Ferret (~ May 7 - 21) - Charles, Jerome, and Garigan head to Sondeshara by dragon!

Cenobitical Joys (~ Jun 1) - Tugal is faced with questions about why she wants to be a Nun on the even of her being accepted as a Full Sister.

Catapulting a new House at Metamor (~ Jun 21) - After Charles's return, Duke Thomas grants him the contested land between Glen Avery and Lake Barnhardt after investing him into the nobility.

Anyway, that's what I have planned. Already finished the first story and am currently working on the next two. Some of these will be very short, others will be longer. Nothing LToY or WTW long at least!

Dominus vobiscum

Forum category: MK Discussion / Weaving Fates
Forum thread: Matthias's Sixth Cycle

Scratch had a few stories in varying degrees of progress that were supposed to explain what happened to his character. He basically had draconian and feline forms that were sort of fighting for dominance, if I recall correctly. By the time he comes back to the keep in A Presence of Thieves he has learned to control these changes.

Scratch was supposed to die in a one-on-one battle with Lilith's draconian general in the Starchild Battle; manifesting his dragon wings, he met the general in an aerial duel over the battlefield. The general mortally wounded Scratch, but he held on to the general and injured his wings, dragging him down to their shared death. The loss of their commander halted the advance of Lilith's forces, taking pressure off the Keepers and buying time until Merai made her appearance.

Now that we're going with the "corruption of Merai" storyline, I don't know what Scratch's fate is likely to be.

Forum category: MK Discussion / Realms of Wonder
Forum thread: What happened to Scratch?

Scratch is another characters who's arc was derailed by the author leaving the setting. So far as I know, the author has left the TSA completely. I've not seen a trace of them on the internet in a number of years.

Scratch, being one of the earlier authors in Metamor Keep, came up with a plotline that had connections to a lot of different other plotlines. Raven's latest story brings Scratch back from a pilgrimage/wandering that he went on that is also not chronicled, but which was planned by the author.

I do not recall the details of his plans, only that he had them, just never wrote them.

Dominus tecum

Forum category: MK Discussion / Realms of Wonder
Forum thread: What happened to Scratch?

In (101 chronological) Eye of the Storm, when Saroth and Scratch came together with Sean in the mix, Scratch was changed into a dragon. But in (169) Roses and Thorns he was a tiger again. How and when did this happen? Is there an appearance between these that isn't listed at Character Appearances? Was a story written between these that didn't make it into the archives to explain it?

Did he survive Winter Assault (or his next confrontation with Saroth)?
So this brings my question back to guilds or such. Does anyone suggest any particular previously mentioned locations that may have brewing jealously controlled by a guild? Or would I just have to make (or pick) one myself? The mention early in the series of a weaving guild destroying improved looms (and their creator? Or was it his whole town?) to protect their business inspired (in part) this line of thought, and family history linked it to brewing.

Forum category: MK Discussion / Realms of Wonder
Forum thread: Other towns, cities and countries

Yes, that does make a lot more sense than the whole chunk of it falling into a plot hole and then out again as a happier place. If we don't declare that particular series non-canon, can we perhaps attach a note at the end of the last one saying essentially what you just said with an apology that it was never finished?

Forum category: MK Discussion / Realms of Wonder
Forum thread: Roscoe

This is partly my fault. When Greyflank wanted to write these stories, he came to me to ask permission to do these things to Roscoe (as Phil had left the character in my charge). I said sure, and we mapped out some stuff that would be done to wrap up his various ideas. The character of Wicker would eventually flee to the north, be captured by a patrol, and be given to Baron Calephas who would promptly break him and turn him into his personal toy. Roscoe would be rehabilitated in the end as well.

When Greyflank disappeared, I dropped all of these potential stories because they were too adult for Metamor Keep (and for myself as well). Sadly this also included Roscoe's rehabilitation which in some sense accounts for the change in the way the dungeons seem to be. Roscoe is still there and the head gaoler. Just he's been assigned others to help him and give him some "brightness" This would have been done by Phil who was one of Roscoe's few friends. Unfortunately, all of this has happened off screen as it were.

I hope that helps clear up some of the confusion.

Dominus tecum

Forum category: MK Discussion / Realms of Wonder
Forum thread: Roscoe

Yes, the original author of that mini-series never actually completed it. The cult in it simply disappears and Roscoe is never mentioned again. I've also noticed that before those stories, the dungeons seemed a dark and dismal place where nightmares lurked and no sane man would wish to stay, not even the jailor himself who was just as nightmarish as the rest of them. After this unfinished tale however, the dungeon just doesn't get mentioned much at all, and when it does it seems to be almost a different dungeon entirely, a much brighter, nicer place. As far as I'm concerned, and the way I've dealt with this, the dark dungeon setting just fell into a plot hole and never escaped. It was never declared non-canon, but it's as if it never existed. So either it happened and there was a warp in time and space (or something) which destroyed Roscoe and the cult (as well as that author's other main characters) and also redecorated the dungeon, or there is another part of the story, unwritten and unmade, which defeats the cult, removes Roscoe from the picture, and makes the dungeon a nicer place. If you look there are a few other places where plotholes like this one suddenly rear out of nowhere to swallow characters and events whole.

Forum category: MK Discussion / Realms of Wonder
Forum thread: Roscoe

Those Keepers who have become reptiles and birds have special needs, needs that those who remained mammals do not truly understand. In the winter of 700, a small group of reptile Keepers came together and started the Fellowship of the Egg. The Fellowship, and the small converted warehouse donated by one of their own, gave them a place to talk and keep warm against the deathly grip of the Northern winter. In the years leading up to the Yuletide Assault in 706, the Fellowship grew to include more than a hundred reptiles and birds, some of them choosing to live in the Fellowship's Hall.

The invasion dealt a serious blow to the Fellowship and its members. The Hall was burned to the ground, and nearly half of the membership gave their lives in a futile effort to protect the two dozen eggs that were being incubated inside.

Forum category: MK Discussion / Weaving Fates
Forum thread: Fellowship of the Egg

Back in the story "Saturday", it appears after Wicker "Wicked" Potter somehow tricked Roscoe into killing his father, they both left the dungeons. The way I see it, Wicked escaped and Roscoe allowed it and went with him. Later in "Wagging Tongues Will" (part 7), Roscoe is mentioned still as being the head jailer.

Did nobody notice (or question) Henrik's death and Wicker's disappearance? Wasn't Roscoe missed when he left (leaving, why did he apparently return)? If he didn't return, who's the new head jailer?

In case somebody wants to use Roscoe again (or even if not), I think something needs to be cleaned up or explained on these events. Was it just a dream? Was it real and did Roscoe go through his own trial and punishment?

If the end is changed, perhaps a link to the new ending can be added at the insert point, or maybe link to the original instead, while flowing the new in.

Forum category: MK Discussion / Realms of Wonder
Forum thread: Roscoe
