Laura was born male. Before the curse changed his sex, he was married to a woman named Sylia and remains married to her. Sylia became a short white-furred Terrier (the breed is known as the Elvquelin Terrier).

They have a boy of eleven named Benyam, a subdued lad with an interest in the cloth (priesthood). They did have an older daughter, but she died while an infant.

Laura is a member of the Long Scouts and a team leader.
