Jaran Calephas is the younger brother of Garadan Calephas and the current baron of Giftum. Jaran quietly assisted spies from Metamor Keep in exposing Garadan's crimes of pedastry, kidnapping, murder, and treason¹. In exchange for his assistance, Jaran was awarded Garadan's title and lands after his elder brother fled the Midlands in disgrace.

Jaran is a competent administrator and plays the game of politics with savvy and panache. He has been known to keep mistresses, but he has none of Garadan's taste for pedophilia and sadism. On the whole, he is no better or worse than the average member of the nobility.
